Whitehorse to Congdon Creek Started the day in Whitehorse with a fuel up. This is a good one, in that it’s big with a lot of turn-around room. Dease Lake on the Cassiar had no room to maneuver and a :25 back up for fuel.

A little later we came across that AlCan quickie road resurface called chipseal. Stones down, then tar, then more stones, i.e., a stone sandwich. Pilot car and dust for

. Gave Mickey a short course on Mile Post map reading. Doing this a couple of days ago may have avoided some road tension. We both passed the communication and orientation successfully.

A short day to the best view campground so far. Kluanelake Lake is 50 miles long. To the west is the Rangle-St. Elias park with Mt Logan, Canada’s highest peak. All this beauty for $9.00 a night. This is the same park we were in with Zach and Ren in 2003. That was memorable because the kids were afraid camper. The brown bears are still an issue, so they did an electrified fence around the tent camping section. Old people hike, Willow chasing a stick into the lake, naps (Gary is the only one who took a nap😜) and book reading. And of course synchronized stone skipping. Lynne won.

Lynne has avoided being on the bear buffet so far, but she’s happy that her potty’s inside tonight. Hamburgers on the campfire grill tonight after we cleaned up some baked bean scat. OK, so I have a certain reputation for cycling through RV’s on a too-regular basis. And I’ve testified that our fifth-wheel is our last ever. Well, cancel that. I had two dual purpose motorcycles; how about an off-road dual purpose RV on steroids. Maybe for our next trip up here.Gave Mickey a short course on Mile Post map reading. Dee Dee at Bear Lake Campground warmly greeted us. She’s from Long Island but likes being an Alaskan. Willow made a new friend also. Dogs of course don’t shake paws, they sniff butts. “So what do you think, how’s my bouquet”? “It’s a little earthy with a hint of left overs”. “I like yours too”

Our campground had a rough airstrip with a Citabria and bush plane something. Maybe my next career.

This is just short of the Yukon Alaska boarder by Beaver Creek. About three weeks ago this fire closed the AlCan for six hours. Can’t see it in the picture but there’s green shoots coming up already.

Lots of human relation revelations on this trip. That being the girls act like guys when they get up in the morning. As in get up, clean up, pack up, and all this with no fuss. Actually I remember Mickey and Deb being the same way on our couple motorcycle trip to Alaska. Makes for easy team work.

Shortly after getting on the road Jack got a low tire pressure warning. After trying to pump it up we heard the hissing where a rock had punctured the tire. At a pull out now waiting for AAA. We couldn’t find the spare tire crank device till an hour later. Got the spare on just as AAA showed up. Now on several shut it down and wait for the follow me truck. A real patience day. Weather to get one or 4 new tires is the decision. A rough ride into Valdez to Eagles Rest Campground. This is our third time here and it’s the best run of the whole trip. The tent area is where we stayed with Barry and Deb on our bike trip. Bridal Val Falls is always a favorite. As is Clem a widower who talked Lynn’s ear off at breakfast.
